[India] - File reply on PIL over lynching of Muslims: SC to Centre, specifies

INSUBCONTINENT EXCLUSIVE:
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday sought responses from the Centre and six states - Maharashtra, Odisha, Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan and
Madhya Pradesh - on a PIL filed by the women's wing of CPI, which claimed an "alarming rise in cases of lynchings and mob violence against
Muslims" despite the SC's 2018 authoritative ruling directing the states to act decisively against hate crimes, including lynchings by
cow-vigilantes.A similar petition was dismissed by the SC earlier while asking another petitioner to move the concerned HC for appropriate
relief against cow vigilantism and mob-lynching
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for National Federation of Indian Women, disarmed a bench of Justices BR Gavai and JB Pardiwala by
prefacing his arguments with - "If the Supreme Court tells me to go to the concerned HC, nothing will happen." The bench smiled and issued
notice to the Centre and the DGPs of the states.
