[Afghanistan] - EU Parliament urges IEA to lift limitations on women, stop public executions

The European Parliament on Thursday expressed concern over the humanitarian and human rights situation in Afghanistan, calling on the
Islamic Emirate to lift restrictions on women and girls and halt public executions.The parliament in a resolution said that the IEA has
ordered judges to fully implement Sharia law and has virtually eliminated women and girls from public life.It called on the IEA to
immediately restore the full and equal participation of women and girls in public life, particularly access to education and work.Members of
the European Parliament insisted that &any EU engagement with the Taliban (IEA) can be maintained only under strict conditions set by the
Council and in accordance with the UN Special Rapporteur&s recommendations.&The resolution was adopted by 513 votes in favour, 9 against and
24 abstentions.This comes as the IEA has repeatedly said that it is committed to ensuring women&s rights according to Sharia.On criticisms
