Afghanistan was shaken early Wednesday when a 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck near Metarlam, in Laghman province.According to the
European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit at a depth of 68 km at 8:17 am local time.EMSC earlier reported the
earthquake at 5.1 magnitude.The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) meanwhile listed the quake at magnitude 5.0.The quake was felt
in Kabul but no damage was immediately reported.Afghanistan is prone to earthquakes and continues to recover from four deadly 6.3 magnitude
quakes in Herat last year.On October 7, the first quake struck, followed by a second 6.3 magnitude quake less than half an hour later.The
pair of earthquakes caused widespread building collapse, particularly in the rural communities surrounding Herat.At least 2,400 people were
killed and over 2,000 were injured in the earthquakes.Three days later, while the population reeled from the events, another magnitude-6.3
earthquake jolted the same region
