John Sopko, the US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), has called for the agency to be closed due to the
Islamic Emirate&s takeover of the country and the reduction in assistance.Sopko has recommended to the Office of Management and Budget in
the White House that SIGAR&s oversight operations be ceased on September 30, 2025.In his latest quarterly report, he said that US aid for
Afghanistan&s reconstruction has declined by 82% since before the Islamic Emirate came to power.The report also stated that Washington has
committed more than $885 million in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan in the fiscal year 2024.The US has assisted a total of $3.3 billion to
Afghanistan since the withdrawal of its troops from the country, 73% of which has been allocated for humanitarian operations and 14% for
