INSUBCONTINENT EXCLUSIVE:
Sri Lankas China-backed Hambantota Port and Sinopec have announced the addition of High Sulphur Fuel Oil (HSFO) to their variety of ship
fuels. In a declaration, the port stated HSFO is stored in two tanks with an integrated capability of 6,000 cubic meters and can be moved at
a rate of 400 metric tonnes per hour. The facility is geared up with innovative tracking and remote-control systems, ensuring precise and
safe operations.According to the port, this addition will offer considerable convenience to shipowners with vessels utilizing scrubbers,
permitting them to choose HSFO as a cost-effective option while complying with IMO 2020 sulfur cap regulations.Meanwhile, Sinopec Lanka
Private Limited mentioned that the absence of shore-based HSFO storage at Sri Lankas ports has formerly limited its schedule to small
amounts, limiting the shipping industrys ability to protect trustworthy fuel products and impacting maritime operations and efficiency.Alice
Lee, Deputy General Manager of Sinopec Fuel Oil Lanka, specified, By leveraging the storage capabilities in Hambantota, we make sure that
vessels calling at Sri Lankan ports have access to constant and premium HSFO products.
