PHI apprehended over Rs. 200,000 allurement remanded

A Public Health Inspector (PHI) attached to the Galewela Medical Officer of Health (MOH) workplace has been remanded till February 17 after
being produced before the Dambulla Magistrates Court.He was jailed today (15) by the authorities of the Bribery Commission for supposedly
obtaining a kickback of Rs
200,000 to restore a hotels trade license.The arrest followed a problem filed by a hotel operator from Ibbagamuwa, who had used to the
Galewela Pradeshiya Sabha for the renewal of the hotels 2025 trade license.As part of the licensing process, the PHI was required to conduct
an examination of the establishment before providing a suggestion to the Pradeshiya Sabha.However, the officer presumably required a
kickback of Rs
200,000 in exchange for releasing the required suggestion letter.Acting on the grievance, Bribery Commission officers established an
operation and arrested the suspect yesterday (14) at around 7.48 p.m
while he was accepting the allurement on the roadway near Sri Buddhajayanthi Viharaya in Thalakiriyagama.
