Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday co-chaired the sixth China-Japan High-Level Economic Dialogue with Japanese Minister for
Foreign Affairs Takeshi Iwaya in Tokyo.Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said
the dialogue aims to strengthen communication on economic development strategies and macroeconomic policies, consolidate the foundation for
traditional cooperation and open up new paths for cooperation in new areas and new models.Since the normalization of diplomatic relations
between China and Japan, bilateral trade has increased more than 300 times, maintaining a high level of $300 billion for 15 consecutive
years, with the cumulative two-way investment reaching nearly $140 billion, Wang noted.The close industrial cooperation and deep integration
of economic interests between the two sides have brought tangible benefits to the people of both countries, he said, adding that it also
demonstrates that China and Japan are partners, not rivals.He added that the two countries should support each other, not divide each
other.Facing the rise of unilateral protectionism while economic globalization facing headwinds, China and Japan should establish correct
mutual understanding, demonstrate responsibility and seek common development with innovative thinking, he said.The Chinese foreign minister
urged the speeding up of the transformation and upgrade of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.Wang called for
encouraging enterprises from both countries to carry out innovative cooperation in fields such as artificial intelligence, digital economy,
energy conservation and environmental protection.He urged efforts to make good use of working mechanisms such as the China-Japan economic
partnership consultation, establish channels for government-enterprise communication, expand market access and eliminate discriminatory
restrictions.It is necessary to resume the negotiations on the China-Japan-ROK Free Trade Agreement at an early date, implement the Regional
Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement with high quality and advance the process of the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific.The
participating parties also conducted in-depth communication on issue including macro policies, economic and trade investment, digital
economy, green development, ecological and environmental protection, cultural exchanges and regional cooperation, and planned the next steps
