China releases practical anti-cancer handbook

weight are key to cancer prevention," said Tian Yantao, head of the Science Popularization Department of the Chinese Anti-Cancer
Association.Being obese or overweight is associated with an increased risk of at least 13 types of cancer, including colorectal cancer,
esophageal cancer and liver cancer, according to the handbook.In China, the normal BMI (Body Mass Index) range for healthy adults is between
18.5 and 24
A BMI between 24 and 28 is classified as overweight, while a BMI of 28 or higher is considered obese.The handbook also includes other
recommendations for cancer prevention, such as getting vaccinated on time, quitting smoking and drinking, eating foods with less sugar and
not sharing personal hygiene items.National Cancer Prevention and Awareness Week, initiated by the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association in 1995,
is observed annually from April 15 to 21 in China
The theme for 2025 is "Prevent Cancer Scientifically, Live a Healthy Life." The initiative aims to encourage the public to adopt healthy
lifestyles, urge high-risk groups to get early screenings and guide patients to seek timely, standardized medical care.
