(Photo:Reuters)With China showing reluctance in coming to the table for military talks to address heightened tensions in eastern Ladakh, top political and national security leaders are likely to hold a high-level meet today to discuss the way forward. The meeting is likely to be attended by senior ministers dealing with the situation along with the senior military leadership, government sources told India Today. The meeting is taking place at a time when there have been multiple incidents of firing on the LAC and the situation worsens, the sources said. The leadership is also expected to take up discussion on the Chinese military activities in Doklam and other areas on Bhutanese soil along with the Indian preparations to deal with the situation. The meeting will also discuss delay in the Corps Commander level talks agreed upon during the diplomatic talks between both sides in Russia, sources added. The Chinese and Indian corps commanders were supposed to restart their parleys after a long gap.
The first five rounds of talks failed to yield any significant result for disengagement at friction points. The Chinese response to the strong Indian stance on the Chinese aggression in eastern Ladakh is also likely to come up for discussion in the meet. The leaders had discussed the situation on the Chinese buildup in Bhutan recently where the People's Liberation Army has amassed troops and weaponry for quite some time now.India and China have been engaged in conflict since April-May after the Chinese Army transgressed into multiple areas from Galwan Valley to Finger area along Pangong Tso.India has also now deployed around 45,000 troops along with elements of armoured divisions.
