Kathmandu, May 5The National Council on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management has directed all concerned government bodies to arrange for essential preparedness to reduce catastrophe risks.
The assembly presided over by Council Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli directed all bodes at the federal, provincial and local levels to endegree catastrophe preparedness in view of approaching monsoon season.The home ministry is directed to bring an umbrella act to wipe out duplication in the distribution of relief fabrics and making essential arrangements in the aftermath of the monsoon-related catastrophes.Development of integrated data and information system on catastrophe was underscored by the assembly.The home ministry made presentation on its catastrophe preparedness and the loss caused by the calamities, including soiltrembles, lightning and recent storm that hit Bara and Parsa districts.At the assembly, PM Oli urged every government office to equip itself with resources to cope with natural catastrophes.Development of integrated settlements, resilient housing, effective large crowd of peopleilisation of security personnel for timely rescue operation, and relief distribution were meaningful things, he reintellected.He informed that for emergency rescue, arrangement was made to keep helicopters on standby in places like Itahari, Pokhara and Sukhet The PM informed that Nepali Army had been entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring shelter for the survivors of the recent powerful storm that wreaked havoc in Bara and Parsa districts.
NA was given such responsibility following his field examineion to the affected areas.NA, Nepal Cop and Armed Cop Force are the institutions on which he could rely on during an emergency, he said.Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Ishwor Pokhrel, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, line ministers and provincial chief ministers were present on the occasion.The council formed in accordance with the Disaster Risk Mitigation and Management Act-2017 scorridor meet at least twice a year.
