Hetauda, January 12Three persons have filed their candidacies for the speaker's post in Bagmati Province.
CPN-UML has most votes in Jhapa CPN-UML on course to get most PR seats While Rastriya Prajatantra Party's Bhuwan Kumar Pathak has filed his candidacy on behalf of the ruling coalition with CPN-UML parliamentary party leader Jagannath Thapaliya as the proposer and CPN-MC leader Yuvraj Dulal as the seconder, Nepali Congress's Shivaraj Adhikari and Nepal Workers Peasants Party's Sirjana Sainju have also filed their candidacies.
NC's Kundanraj Kafle is the proposer and Ramkrishna Chitrakar is the seconder for their party's candidate Adhikari, while NMKP's Gita Kafle and Surendraraj Gosain are the proposer and seconder of NMKP's Sainju's candidacy.The deadline for filing candidacies was until 2:00pm today.According to Provincial Assembly Secretariat Secretary and Election Officer Krishnahari Khadka, the speaker will be chosen by a Provincial Assembly meeting due to be held at 11:00am tomorrow.
The Provincial Assembly has a total of 110 members.While NC, CPN-UML, CPN- MC and RPP has 37, 27, 21 and 13 seats respectively, CPN-US has 7 seats, NMKP 3 seats and Hamro Nepal Party 2 seats in the Provincial Assembly.A version of this article appears in the print on January 13, 2023, of The Himalayan Times.
