Naval personnel held two persons who were loading sand for transportation without permits, during a raid carried out at Kandalkadu area in Trincomalee, on 20thJuly 2019.

Bread price goes back down

The Bakery Owners& Association yesterday said that it has decided to withdraw the price revision of a loaf of bread announced on Wednesday. It said the decision to increase the price of a loaf of 450g bread by Rs. 5 from Wednesday has been withdrawn and the price will be same as previous.The price increase was announced after two wheat flour companies increased the price of wheat flour by about Rs.7 per kilo. However following negotiations the price increase was suspended.

PM rejects BASL claims saying NO SOFA signed

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had rejected claims made by members of the Bar Association (BASL) that the SOFA agreement, MCC and Land Bill were all interconnected. Ministry to buy NFTH for Rs.3.5 bn

The Health Ministry will buy the Dr.Neville Fernando Hospital soon by paying Rs. 3.5 billion. This valuation had been done two years ago, Health Ministry Secretary Wasantha Perera said. Addressing a press conference at the Health Ministry Auditorium in Colombo yesterday morning, she said that the Health Ministry has not made any payment to Dr. Neville Fernando so far. The hospital is located in a land belonging to the Urban Development Authority (UDA).

World Bank assures continuous assistance to Sri Lanka

WB Senior Regional Managers meet in Colombo to show solidarity World Bank Vice President for South Asia Region, Hartwig Schafer said that the World Bank will increase assistance to Sri Lanka under three of its new operations. They include assisting the agriculture sector faced with climatic vagaries, irrigation, renewable energy, climate resilience operations and renovation of tanks in rural areas.
