NEW DELHI: Underperforming the benchmark Sensex, the BSE Smallcap index finished Monday's trade 2.09 per cent down at 16,624.
The top loser of the smallcap index, Deep Industries plunged 20 per cent.As per Reuters, the company said on Friday that the CBI had registered a case against 13 officials of ONGC and Deep Industries after a complaint filed by ONGC's vigilance department regarding a contract with ONGC.PC Jeweller (down 16.94 per cent) and Leel Electricals (down 16.21 per cent) tanked up to 17 per cent in the index.BPL (down 13.28 per cent), Godawari Power Ispat (down 13.05 per cent), Medicamen Biotech (down 12.38 per cent), Merck (down 12 per cent) and Kesar Terminals Infrastructure (down 11.74 per cent) suffered losses of up to 13 per cent.However, shares of Indian Acrylics (up 18.92 per cent) zoomed 19 per cent in the index.Gateway Distriparks (up 8.45 per cent), Anant Raj (up 8.27 per cent), Atlanta (up 8.14 per cent) and Spicejet (up 7.46 per cent) also registered gains.Indian equity benchmarks extended losses to the second session on Monday due to losses in bank, FMCG, financial, telecom and capital goods stocks even as global cues were mostly positive.The BSE Sensex took a downward plunge of 215 points, or 0.61 per cent, to settle at 35,012, while the Nifty index tanked 68 points, or 0.63 per cent, to finish Monday's session at 10,629.In the Nifty index, 15 stocks managed to close the day with gains, while 35 remained in the negative zone.The Sensex saw 7 stocks advancing, while 24 declining at the end of Monday's trade.HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel and Adani Ports remained the top losers in the Sensex index.
