NEW DELHI: The BSE Midcap index was underperforming benchmark Sensex during Monday's trade.
Around 11:35 am, the BSE Midcap was trading 0.57 per cent down at 16,250, while the Sensex was 0.05 per cent up at 35,554.
The NSE Nifty50 was 0.07 per cent up at 10,814.Tata Global Beverages (down 10.02 per cent), Reliance Power (down 6.43 per cent), Vakrangee (down 4.96 per cent), Reliance Infrastructure (down 4.81 per cent), Reliance Capital (down 4.52 per cent), Adani Power (down 3.98 per cent), GMR Infrastructure (down 3.75 per cent), Reliance Communications (down 3.65 per cent) were the top losers in the midcap index.On the other hand, shares of Sun TV Network (up 12.76 per cent), Oberoi Realty (up 4.37 per cent), Larsen Toubro Infotech (up 2.01 per cent), MphasiS (up 1.94 per cent), Biocon (up 1.68 per cent), IIFL Holdings (up 1.33 per cent), Wockhardt (up 1.12 per cent) and Blue Dart Express (up 1.11 per cent) were among the top gainers among the midcap stocks.Equity benchmarks were cautious after various exit polls released over the weekend suggests no clear winner in the Karnataka elections.
Disappointing macroeconomic data, released on Friday, too dented market sentiment.
Industrial output growth fell to a five-month low of 4.4 per cent in March due to a decline in capital goods production and deceleration in mining activity and power generation, PTI reported.Tata Motors, ICICI Bank and Tata Consultancy Services were the top losers in the Sensex index.
