Air travel between Cabo Verde’s islands remains chaotic.

TACV, responsible for domestic routes, struggles to meet demand.Operating with only one leased ATR aircraft, TACV has recently canceled several flights, frustrating passengers and travel agencies.

They demand urgent, effective solutions.The government reinstated TACV for domestic flights after Best Fly Angola exited the market.However, TACV, once operating three leased aircraft, cannot maintain consistent inter-island service.

We have proposed creating an air taxi service to solve this mobility problem.”In addition, these air travel issues have sparked heated political debates.

Opposition parties criticize the government for mismanagement.Cabo Verde’s Air Travel CrisisAntónio Monteiro, a UCID parliamentarian, expressed frustration over the lack of planes in an island nation.

He urged the government to acquire three ATR aircraft quickly to alleviate the ongoing crisis.Fidel de Pina, a PAICV parliamentarian, argued that TACV should prioritize domestic flights over international ones, where other options exist.He stressed the need to ensure the islands are not isolated and to facilitate travel for tourists and investors.Additionally, João Gomes from the ruling MPD party, acknowledged the situation’s complexity.He emphasized that the new administration must implement measures to resolve current issues and prevent future problems.A TACV source claimed the problem of canceled flights has been addressed using a long-haul aircraft.

The new CEO confirmed their mission to stabilize the situation.However, this air travel crisis matters deeply.

Cabo Verde relies on efficient inter-island travel for tourism, business, and daily life.Prolonged disruptions harm the economy and isolate communities.
