The All Ceylon Egg Tradersâ $ Association has contacted the government to present a rates formula to stabilize the rate of eggs in the market. The Secretary of the association Anura Marasinghe mentioned that it costs less than Rs.
25 to produce an egg, making it possible to offer them at a price of Rs.
35 per egg.â $ The concern of escalating egg prices remains unresolved, with present market rates varying from Rs.
40 to Rs.
45 per egg.
We advise the government to designate a committee and establish a transparent pricing formula, â $ Mr.
Marasinghe said. He further noted that the actual production cost of an egg is in between Rs.
20 and Rs.
23, while farm-gate costs presently stand at around Rs.
30.
The association believes a rates mechanism would benefit both manufacturers and consumers, ensuring reasonable rates throughout the board.
