ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday approved a probe into former president Pervez Musharraf's disproportionate assets and misuse of authority.

The former president also faces high treason charges in Pakistan.

The NAB also approved a probe into Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Moonis Elahi's corruption and an offshore company as his name had appeared in the Panama Papers. Earlier, Elahi had appeared before NAB along with his financial records.

The NAB also approved inquiry into former CDA chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi, Pakistan's Ambassador to Cuba, Kamran Shafi, and Federal Board of Revenue chairman Muhammad Abdullah Yusuf for their alleged involvement in corruption and misuse of authority.

The watch dog also initiated probe against politicians whose names had appeared in the Panama Papers after the Supreme Court order in November last year sent notices to it and the federal government seeking reports on action taken against them.

The approval was given at the meeting chaired by NAB chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal in Islamabad.
