RAWALPINDI: DG ISPR Maj-Gen Asif Ghafoor on Friday announced that Pakistan Army has summoned former ISI chief Lt-Gen (retd) Asad Durrani on May 28 to  explain his position on views attributed to him in book ‘Spy Chronicles’, co-authored with a former Indian intelligence chief.

“Lt-Gen (retd) Asad Durrani will be asked to explain his position on views attributed to him in the book. Attribution [is being] taken as [a] violation of Military Code of Conduct applicable on all serving and retired military personnel,” the director general (DG) of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) twitted.

Expressing its reservations on the book written by former DG-ISI Asad Durrani, Pakistan Army has summoned him to GHQ to explain his  position on the issue.

The Army's military wing's announcement came hours after the deposed prime minister  Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Senator Raza Rabbani voiced their reservations regarding the  book ‘Spy Chronicles’, co-authored with a former Indian intelligence chief.

Talking to media during his appearance before the accountability court (AC), former premier said that the constitution of a national commission was the only way to put the country on the right track. In an inquisitorial tone, Nawaz asked if there will also be a meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) on the revelations made by ex-ISI head.

In past, two former army chiefs, General Ayub Khan and General Pervez Musharraf, had also authored books during their tenures.

The controversial book titled "The Spy Chronicles: RAW, ISI and The Illusion of Peace" has been co-authored by former chief of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Asad Durrani and the former chief of India's Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) A S Dulat.

The book has discussed important issues between the two nations. It also sheds light on Kargil Operation, Abbottabad Operation against Osama bin Laden, arrest of Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav in Pakistan, Hafiz Saeed, Kashmiri freedom fighter Burhan Wani.
