(Image: India Today)No masks on, sitting in a jam-packed hall -- Assam ministers were seen violating social distancing norms during an election campaign meeting on Friday.The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election meeting was organised at Tamulpur area in Baksa district of Assam on Friday where Assam's junior health minister Pijush Hazarika and few others BJP leaders were present.A purported video, which has gone viral on social media, showed a large number of people attending the election campaign meeting in an open hall.People were seen sitting in close proximity of each other, flouting social distancing norms.Most of the people who attended the meeting didn't even wear a face mask.The Assam Governor's rule was imposed in BTC on April 27 after the term of the council was expired and the Governor's rule in BTC would come to an end on October 27.Elections to the BTC council were scheduled on April 4, but the Assam State Election Commission had deferred the poll indefinitely due to the Covid-19 pandemic.The BTC which covers four districts -- Baksa, Udalguri, Kokrajhar and Chirang -- is called Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD).Assam has so far registered 1,52,858 positive coronavirus cases and 540 deaths due to the deadly virus.The state reported 2,509 new Covid-19 positive cases in the past 24 hours.
