(File photo)BJP leader Kapil Mishra has told Delhi Police that he went to Maujpur area, a day before the riots broke out in Northeast Delhi, to convince people not to block roads.Kapil Mishra reportedly joined the investigation into Delhi riots on July 28.

The BJP leader told the Delhi Police Special Cell that he gave no speech in Maujpur.

When asked if he had visited the Northeast Delhi district prior to the riots, Mishra said his home is in Yamuna Vihar, which falls in the district.These details have emerged in the chargesheet filed by police in a case related to the riots in Northeast Delhi.

Communal clashes had broken out in northeast Delhi on February 24 after violence between supporters of the citizenship law and those protesting against it spiralled out of control, leaving at least 53 dead.When questioned regarding Kapil Mishra’s speech in Maujpur, a video of which had gone viral as he was seen addressing a gathering with DCP (Northeast) Ved Prakash Surya standing next to him, the BJP leader told police he was at Maujpur in his individual capacity.Kapil Mishra alleged that a campaign on Facebook asked for roads to be blocked because of which people were facing difficulties.

Kapil Mishra told police that he went to Maujpur to address their issues and convince people not to block roads.Kapil Mishra claimed that he called the DCP before he reached the spot and told him that if the blockage is not removed within three days, he will sit on a dharna.In the chargesheet, Kapil Mishra maintains that he hadn’t given a speech.

He claimed that he went alone to Maujpur but because he is a local, crowd gathered.

“At 2.45 pm, people told me that stone-pelting has started and police were facing a tough time manning the barricades near Jaffarabad,” Kapil Mishra claimed.
