KAKINADA: The traditional Ugadi celebrations remained muted in Godavari districts because of the rising cases of Covid-19 disease. The state federal government utilized to commemorate Ugadi as an official celebration by organizing Panchanga Sravanam (citation of the Telugu new almanac calendar) program, recitation of poetry and other cultural activities.
The federal government could not commemorate the celebration formally due to covid-19 lockdown in 2015.
This year also the Ugadi events were low-profile and authorities did not use up any culture programs due to the 2nd wave of Covid-19 scare.Though there was no lockdown this year, the state culture department has not given permission or released any guidelines to the district administrations to hold the celebration.
Numerous poets and artists who were eagerly waiting for the fete to prove their talent and likewise receive awards, were dissatisfied.
Sources, however, said the scarcity of funds at the culture department is another factor for the muted celebrations.
We invite the federal government's choice to suspend the main celebration of traditional celebrations like Ugadi to avoid event at one location.
The federal government did not ban other programmes which led to overcrowding.
For example, the government has held felicitation functions to volunteers, which was participated in by countless people.
A number of the programs such as agitations, processions and others are being enabled.
Such acts have actually led to many doubts that the federal government was deliberately trying to suppress the Hindu celebrations , said Chinta Gopi Sarma Siddanti, an almanac author and likewise Bhuvaneswari Peetham chief at Peddapuram.
He stated that all Hindus follow the federal government actions to suppress the virus but at the very same time, the government ought to provide equal value to Hindu festivals.Even in villages also there were drastic changes in commemorating the celebration.
Every Ugadi day, the farmers used to start tilling their lands early hours based on tips given by the astrologists.
However, for the previous few years, the farmers did not do it due to mechanisation in agriculture. The tilling of the lands with bullocks have almost disappeared and likewise conventional kinds of entertainment are also gradually vanishing from the villages.
In this Ugadi celebration, there was a severe lack of Neem flower which is very important for Ugadi pachadi as the blooming phase has almost ended and a limited quantity of Neem Flower is offered to individuals and there was excellent need for it.
