Ahmedabad: Cyclone Tauktae damaged into a depression and lay centred over south Rajasthan and adjoining Gujarat area on Wednesday early morning, the India Meteorological Department said.After causing extensive rain in Gujarat, the cyclone is expected to bring showers in numerous other states also, consisting of Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, due to its interaction with the western disturbance, the IMD stated.

The cyclonic depression was located around 60 km west-southwest of Udaipur in Rajasthan, and 110 km of Deesa in Gujarat, the IMD stated in its early morning publication.

The residue of the system is most likely to move further north eastwards across Rajasthan to west Uttar Pradesh during the next two days, it said.The depression will bring light to moderate rainfall at many places in east Rajasthan, with really heavy rainfall at isolated places on Wednesday, the IMD said.Due to its interaction with the western disruption it is also likely to trigger rainfall in Uttarakhand, with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at separated places over Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh and west Rajasthan during the next 24 hours, it said.

In his media interaction on Tuesday evening, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said the next couple of days will be committed to restoring the damages caused by the cyclone.Amreli, Gir Somnath, Junagadh, Porbandar, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Botad in Saurashtra region stayed amongst the worst affected districts due to the cyclone.As per the information provided by the CM on Tuesday night, 5,951 towns suffered power blackout.Around 70,000 electrical poles fell and four 220-KV sub-stations were yet to reboot out of 5 that suffered damage due to the cyclonic storm.

Rupani said 68 out of 165 66-KV sub-stations were likewise damaged and later on made functional.Out of 425 COVID-19 healthcare facilities situated in the impacted areas, 122 dealt with power interruption.

The electricity supply was restored in 83 of them, while 39 others were dealing with backup arrangements, he stated.
