CHENNAI: A day after a 19-year-old boy, a NEET aspirant, died by suicide at his residence in Chromepet on Saturday evening, allegedly dejected over his inability to clear the exam twice, his father also died by suicide at their house on Monday morning.Police said the deceased, P Selvasekar, 48, of Kurinji Nagar, Chromepet, ran a studio and was a single parent.His son, Jegadeeswaran, finished Class XII from a CBSE school in 2022 and attempted the NEET exam twice but couldn't clear it.
Police said he had applied for the examination again and was preparing for it.
Jagadeeswaran hanged himself from the ceiling on Sunday when he was home alone.Meanwhile, Selvasekar, who remained inconsolable, completed his son's funeral rites and hanged himself after returning from the cremation ground.
The incident came to light when a relative searched for him on Monday morning, the police said.Chitlapakkam police secured Selvasekar's body and sent it to Chromepet government hospital for postmortem.
