BHOPAL: The Shivraj Singh Chouhan cabinet on Saturday approved a law for compensation for mob lynching victims and ratified a bunch of big-ticket promises to women ahead of elections - including homes for those who don't qualify for PM Awas scheme. The 'Mob Lynching Victim Compensation Scheme 2023' has been laid out under Supreme Court guidelines for relief and rehabilitation of such victims and their dependents.

It describes 'mob lynching' as "causing harm to any person or persons by a mob of five or more persons on grounds of religion, caste, sex, place of birth, language, food habits, sexual orientation, political affiliation, ethnicity or other such ground or grounds or involves any act or series of acts of violence intended to cause injury".

The family of a victim killed by a mob will get a compensation of Rs 10 lakh.

Those injured will get Rs 4 lakh to Rs 6 lakh. The cabinet also approved the Mukhya Mantri Ladli Bahna Awas Yojana - a housing scheme for those who did not qualify for PM Awas Yojana.

"While the poor are getting homes under PM Awas Yojana, many families are deprived of homes under that scheme.

Today, at the cabinet meeting, the CM announced a new scheme for such people," minister Vishvas Sarang said at a media briefing. The council of ministers extended a special recruitment drive to fill backlog posts of SC, ST, OBCs and persons with disabilities by a year - from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024.The cabinet also approved the doubling of monthly honorarium to guest teachers: Class-1 teachers will now get Rs 18,000, Class-2 Rs 14,000 and Class-3 Rs 10,000.

In compliance with the announcement made by Chouhan on August 27, a decision has been taken to provide cooking gas for Rs 450 to all women having LPG connections under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and 'Ladli Behnas' having gas connections under non-PMUY in the month of Shravan (July 4-Aug 31, 2023).

The subsidy will be payable on refills taken during this period on gas connections issued in the name of Ladli Behna beneficiaries.
