Considering multiple car fire incidents in recent days, a committee has been constituted to study the reason for such fatal accidents, said the Kerala government in the assembly as stated in a PTI report.
According to the report, Kerala Transport Minister Antony Raju said that the decision to establish a committee, which comprises police and road safety commission experts was taken subsequent to an urgent meeting, held on this safety concern on August 17, 2o23.The committee panel was constituted on August 28 and it will submit the report in two months, the Kerala Road Transport Minister said.
He was responding to UDF MLA Anoop Jacob in regard to the frequent vehicle fire incidents in Kerala and causing deaths.
In response to the same, Anoop Jacob said that a proper study should be conducted on whether the LPG, CNG, diesel, petrol or Electic cars are catching flames and on the reasons for the fire.
India is faster than other markets to adopt new technologies: Continental | TOI AutoAntony Raju, Kerala Transport Minister said that in the meeting of experts from the transportation sector, vehicle manufacturers, insurance surveyors and car dealers, different causes were identified for the fire.
The car fire reasons range from man-made issues, such as illegal fittings, electrical circuit problems and electronic failures, he added.Illegal fittings, to convert a low variant into a high variant model, was identified as one of the major causes of the fire, the minister said.
Further, he added that such illegal fitments should be discouraged and the companies using it need to be regulated and also held responsible.Car dealerships have been instructed to make buyers aware of such illegal fitments and further steps would be taken based on the report of the expert committee, he added.Several incidents of car fires have been reported in the past few months in Kerala.
In August, a 35-year-old man died after his car caught flames suddenly in Alappuzha, Kerala.
Following the same, a moving car caught fire in Kottayam in the state.
