HYDERABAD: A woman, who was upset with her husband, allegedly pushed her four children into Kalwakurthy lift irrigation canal before she attempted suicide in Nagarkurnool district.
Cops said three children died, while a seven-month-old baby boy is yet to be traced.
However, she survived the suicide bid.
Nagarkurnool district police said the incident took place at Manganoor village.
Lalitha, mother of the children, had a strained relationship with her husband Sarabanda.
"Unable to live with him any more, she decided to kill her children first and then end her life," district police said.
She took her children to a local canal, where she pushed her four children.
Subsequently, she also jumped into the water.
"But, a villager saw the woman struggling in the water.
The locals came to her rescue and pulled her out of the water.
By then, her four children went missing in the water," police said.
According to police, the bodies of five-year-old Maha Lakshmi, four-year-old Charita and three-year-old Manjula were fished out of the water by expert swimmers, while they launched an operation to trace their seven-month-old brother, Kondaiah.
Police reached the spot and took the woman into custody and registered a case against her.
