Naval personnel attached to the Presidential Task Force for drug prevention, conducted an awareness programme on drug prevention in Kekirawa area, on 30th June 2019.Accordingly, an awareness programme organized by Department of Community Based Corrections on drug prevention and rehabilitation intended for people of North Central province was held at Rambewa area for the people reside in Kekirawa Divisional Secretariat.

COMMENCE OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH BARBADOS

Upon the signing of the Agreement by Dr. Amrith Rohan Perera, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations and Ms. H. Elizabeth Thompson, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Barbados to the United Nations on 28th June 2019 in New York, the Government of Sri Lanka and the Government of Barbados decided to establish Diplomatic Relations between the two countries with effect from 28th June 2019.

Curtain fall on National Drug prevention week today

The island-wide National Drug Prevention Week under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena coinciding with the &International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking& saw the completion of its final day successfully yesterday (30). The main ceremony of the week long campaign will be held at Sugathdasa Stadium today (01July) with the participation of His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena as the Chief Guest.

Fair weather continues over the island

Except for light showers in the Sabaragamuwa province, mainly fair weather will continue further over most parts of the island. Fairly strong gusty winds up to 40 kmph are likely in Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee, Hambantota and Matara districts.

Govt.keen to alleviate the anxieties and concerns of the people

The government is keen to alleviate the anxieties and concerns of the people. Security for places of religious worship will be ensured, said Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.The Premier was speaking during a visit to Batticaloa Zion Church on Saturday. After speaking to chief Pastor Rev. Roshan Maheshan, the Prime Minister instructed Army engineers involved in the reconstruction of the church to finish work before Christmas.
