BIA, Palali airports to be upgraded: Civil Aviation remits Rs. 5 bn to Treasury

The Civil Aviation industry suffered a direct loss of Rs.12 million daily due to the drop of foreign tourists' arrival in Sri Lanka following the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks, Transport and Civil Aviation State Minister Ashok Abeysinghe said.He said that it suffered an indirect loss of Rs.51 million monthly due to the same cause. He added that the situation would come back to normal soon since the travel advisories imposed by many countries on Sri Lanka are being lifted.

CB Bond scam indictments Record 1 million pages evidence

In what is Sri Lankabiggest corruption case to date, Attorney General Dappula de Livera has filed indictments in the First Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar against former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran and nine others in connection with the February 2015 Central Bank Treasury Bond scam, supported by the largest ever set of production items. The coordinating officer to the Attorney-General, State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne, said that the production items consisting of over one million pages have been attached to the indictments.

A Twenty member delegation comprising of travel agents and media personnel will undertake a familiarisation tour to Sri Lanka from 06 & 15 July 2019. The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) in coordination with the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Sydney has organised this familiarisation tour for Australian travel agents.

President explains death penalty decision to UN Secy Gen.

President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday disclosed that he had spoken with the UN Secretary-General António Guterres over the telephone on Thursday night and explained the reasons for implementing the death sentence in Sri Lanka.Speaking at a ceremony at Lankapura Vijitha Maha Vidyalaya in Polonnaruwa yesterday, the President stressed that nobody should try to reverse his decision to execute the death penalty.Observing that he had signed the death warrants on four convicted drug traffickers, the President said that his intention was to save the nation and future generations from a grave social plague. He stressed that anybody who speaks against his decision to implement the death penalty supports the illicit drug business.
