Strong gusty winds and heavy falls above 50 mm

There is a high possibility to occur strong gusty winds up to 50-60 kmph in Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Uva and Northwestern province and in western coastal areas and fairly strong gusty winds up to 50 kmph in Northcentral and Eastern provinces. Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. Several spells of showers will occur in North-western province and in Matale and Hambanthota districts. Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m. Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm can be expected at some places, in Sabaragamuwa and Central province and in Kaluthara, Galle and Matara districts. There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.

Tomorrow15-hour water cut in Colombo

Water supply to several areas in Colombo will be disrupted for 15-hours commencing from 9am tomorrow to 12 mid night on Saturday, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board said.Accordingly, water supply to Colombo, Dehiwela, Mt.Lavinia, Kotte, Kaduwela Municiple Council areas, Maharagama, Boralasgamuwa, Kolonnawa Urban Council areas, Kotikawaththa, Mulleriyawa Pradeshiyasaba areas, Rathmalana and Soysapura Housing Scheme areas will be affected by the water cut.

SL signed agreement with Japan on sending workers for employment

Economy achieved 3.7% growth in the 1st quarter 2019

Sri Lanka's economy grew at a positive rate of 372 percent during the first quarter of this year, the Census and Statistics Department said on Wednesday releasing the GDP Summary Indicators for the 1st Quarter 2019.

According to a Department statement, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at constant (20 I0) prices for the first three months of 2019 recorded as Rs.2,326,273 million and GDP reported for the first quarter of 2018 was Rs.2,242,552 million.

On advice of Mahasangha the country not head in wrong direction & President
