Esala festival on a grand scale - PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe while thanking all those who contributed to celebrating the Poson festival on a grand scale yesterday said the upcoming Esala festival should be celebrated in a similar manner.The Prime Minister in a statement also thanked the Maha Sangha, Ministers, Government officials, Security agencies, Principals, Public and private institutions for their contribution in making the Poson festival a success.He made special mention on the leadership given by the members of Maha Sangha to make this annual event a success.&I made a request to all to celebrate the Poson festival on a grand scale this year while giving pride of place to religious activities on June 5, after having several rounds of discussions with the Maha Sangha of the three Chapters,& the Prime Minister said.

Polonnaruwa Poson perahera under Presidentpatronage

The historic Poson Maha Perahera of Polonnaruwa started at the Polonnaruwa Vatadageya Monday (17), under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena. According to the historic traditions, the perahera was commenced after the President placed the Perahera Karanduwa (golden casket) containing the sacred relics on the royal elephant.

SL to send unlimited skilled workers to Japan

An agreement will be signed by the Sri Lankan and Japanese Governments tomorrow (19) enabling Sri Lanka to send an unlimited number of skilled workers to Japan for a period of 10 years, monitoring MP for the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara said today. He said that the agreement will be signed in Japan by Minister of Telecommunications, Foreign Employment and Sports, Harin Fernando.

President inspects the progress of the Nephrology Hospital construction in Polonnaruwa

President Maithripala Sirisena visited the construction site of the China & Sri Lanka Friendship Nephrology hospital in Polonnaruwa yesterday (June 17) to inspect the progress.The Chinese funding for the kidney hospital is a result of discussions held between President Sirisena and Chinese President Xi Jinping during the formerofficial visit to China in 2015.
