Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri has been appointed as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee to look into and report to Parliament on the terrorist attacks that took place in different places in Sri Lanka on 21st April 2019. Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya announced the appointments to the select committee in Parliament today (23).

This Vesak season was no exception when it came to the glitter and glamour in the illuminations and the spirit of giving and sharing, though conducting mega Vesak celebrations were cancelled due to security considerations. Although foreign tourist arrivals have dropped following the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks, this group of visitors from Germany while organizing a ‘Dansela& near the ancient Dambulla temple joined in the seasons spirit of giving by engaging in the act of ‘Daana,& a highly venerated aspect of Vesak.

Showery condition is expected to enhance to some extent over most parts of the island, particularly in south-western part. Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces.Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere particularly in after 2.00 p.m. Fairly heavy falls about 100 mm can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces. There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.

‘Shilpa Sena&, a rolling exposition will be launched islandwide in July, geared towards bringing technological skills, knowledge and products to the public, at a time when the country embraces new and emerging technologies, Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe said recently.The aim of the exposition is to bridge the technological divide in society while ensuring that no one will be left behind, as part of the governmentwider policy of achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, he said.
