Report on Batticaloa campus in early June

The Subcommittee on Education, an extension of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Education and Human Resource Development will submit its report on the controversial Batticaloa campus to Parliament in early June. The Chairman of the Subcommittee, Prof. Ashu Marasinghe, said they have completed the investigations and would finalise the report by the end of this month. &We hope to table it in Parliament early June,& he said.

US extends counter-terrorism support to Lanka

United States has offered to continue to expand counter-terrorism and maritime and border security cooperation with Sri Lanka during the third United States&Sri Lanka Partnership Dialogue held late last week, a joint statement issued at the end of the dialogue read. The Sri Lankan delegation was also briefed on the ‘Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS& which is a 79-nation strong coalition led by the US, given the terrorists who struck Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday appear to have drawn inspiration from ISIS.

Sri Lanka marks a decade of peace

As Sri Lanka marks a decade of peace on May 19, Army Commander Mahesh Senanayake has pledged to preserve the peace within the country. Noting that the country is now facing a threat of terrorism of a different nature, the Commander said the Army along with the other forces is prepared to prevent any similar attacks, such as that which occurred on April 26. He made these assurances at a media briefing held in Colombo this week.
