President says technology should for human development, not for destruction

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena says modern technology should be used for the betterment of the humans not for the destruction. Addressing an event in Polonnaruwa today, the President requested to use modern technology to create a world full of intellectuals armed with knowledge. The President vested several projects with the people funded by the Sri Lanka Telecom and Mobitel at a cost of Rs. 2.5 billion under the "Awakening Polonnaruwa" District Development Project.

President promises to eradicate terrorism

Inland fish industry set for larger target

The Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Department will harvest inland fish island-wide in water sources larger than 800 hectares. Agriculture Irrigation, Rural Economy, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister P. Harrison released 100,000 fish to the Nachchaduwa tank in Anuradhapura commencing the programme recently.

Primary classes begin second term today

The Primary section of government schools will begin today for the second term as scheduled. The commencement of the Primary section was postponed by a week due to security reasons following the Easter Sunday terror attack. Accordingly Grade 1 to 5 classes in all schools will commence today, the Education Ministry said.

Ex-USCG ‘Sherman& sails into new home territory

Ex-United States Coast Guard Cutter (USCGC) ‘Sherman& taken over by the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) from the US government, arrived at the port of Colombo today (12th May).The vessel acquired by the Sri Lanka Navy from the US government in a bid to increase the operational capability of the islandsea arm, arrived at the port of Colombo around 10.00 a.m. this morning. Sri Lanka Navy welcomed the newly arrived platform in compliance with naval traditions on the harbour premises. The ship is commanded by Captain (ND) Rohitha Abeysinghe and its crew is comprised of 22 officers and 111 sailors.
