IMF to consider Sri Lanka's request to extend fund facility until 2020

Washington, DC: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says it will consider a request made by Sri Lanka to extend the fund facility until 2020. IMF Director of the Communications Department Gerry Rice at the Press Briefing on Thursday expressing condolences to the Sri Lankan authorities and the people affected by the Easter Sunday bomb attacks, said IMF program with Sri Lanka is ongoing.

Rs 47 MN compensations for Easter Sunday terror victims

The families of 103 victims killed in the Easter Sunday bombings on April 21 have received Rs 47 million in compensations to date, Secretary of the National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement and Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development and Youth Affairs Ministry, V. Sivagnanasothy said yesterday.

Fuel prices hiked

The government has decided to increase CPC fuel prices with effect from midnight yesterday (10), based on the fuel price formula. Petrol 92 Octane has been increased by Rs 3 per litre, while Petrol 95 Octane is to be hiked by Rs 5. Super Diesel has been increased by Rs 2, however no changes were made to the prices of Auto Diesel, the Ministry of Finance said. Accordingly the new price of 92 Octane Petrol will be Rs 135 per litre while the price of 95 Octane Petrol will be Rs 164. The new price of a litre of Super Diesel will be Rs 136.

Revised security arrangements at BIA

Sri Lanka Air Force has announced the new arrangements made to facilitate the passengers arriving and departing the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).The SLAF has taken this measure as the passengers were inconvenienced because of the enhanced security checks implemented since the 21st of April.

Three-day period to handover illegal explosives to police

Sri Lanka Police requests those in possession of explosives without valid permits to inform the nearest police station. Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said that a three-day period has been announced from 6.00 a.m. today to inform and handover all illegal explosives material. Individuals in possession of such explosives should inform the nearest police station before 6.00 a.m. om Tuesday (May 14).

New Attorney General sworn in before President

Acting Attorney General Dappula de Livera was sworn in as the new Attorney General before President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat, yesterday (10).Furthermore, Mr. H.M. Gamini Senevirathne has been appointed as New Secretary to the Ministry of Internal - Home Affairs and Provincial Councils - Local Government, while Ms. K.J. Ashoka Alawaththa has been appointed as the new Secretary to the Ministry of Primary Industries and Social Empowerment.They received their Letters of appointment from the President yester day.
