NEW DELHI: Losses in Wipro (down 2.35 per cent), Tech Mahindra (down 2.12 per cent) and HCL Technologies (down 1.75 per cent) dragged the Nifty IT index down during the early trade on Tuesday.The Nifty IT index was trading 1.26 per cent down at 13,838 around 10:30 am (IST).
Majority of components in the IT index were in the red on account of profit-booking amid a fresh rise in Indian currency.
Shares of KPIT Technologies (down 1.46 per cent), MindTree (down 1.25 per cent), Infosys (down 1.20 per cent) and Tata Consultancy Services (down 0.55 per cent) were also among the losers.
However, shares of Oracle Financial Services Software (up 0.83 per cent), Infibeam Incorporation (up 0.68 per cent) and Tata Elxsi (up 0.60 per cent) were trading with mild gains.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 8 points at 10,593, while the BSE Sensex was up 99 points at 34,550.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 28 were trading in the green, while 22 were in the red.
YES Bank, Lupin, ICICI Bank, Adani Ports SEZ and Dr Reddy's Labs were among the top gainers in the Nifty index.However, Hindalco Industries, Vedanta, Wipro, Bharti Infratel and Tech Mahindra were among the top losers in the index.
