Peru’s INDECI has shut 102 coastal ports for at least 24 hours due to strong wave alerts, and local and regional officials received advice to guide residents on how to stay safe.Officials also recommend stopping all fishing.

They suggest small boats should return to shore.

“Avoid sports and fun activities while waves are high,” they noted.INDECI is working with disaster offices to keep an eye on the situation.

New technologies like wave sensors and satellite imagery are now in use.These tools help in providing more accurate data.Fishing is a key industry in Peru, so these closures have an economic impact.

Local fishermen are the most affected when the ports close.However, safety remains the priority, trumping any financial concerns.Tourism, another major industry, also takes a hit.

Beach activities and water sports often have to be canceled.Despite this, the government believes that the long-term benefits of safety measures outweigh short-term losses.INDECI’s proactive approach has generally been praised.

Their efforts help in reducing the number of accidents during such natural events.Overall, the public tends to be supportive of these precautionary measures.
